In its earlier years, Black Lesbian Support Group was a thriving space for Black women to gather — sometimes monthly and sometimes bi-weekly — and share what was on their minds and hearts in safe company. Affectionately known as “BLSG” the group met at various locations around Washington, DC over the years including at Whitman-Walker and at the University of the District of Columbia.

BLSG created space for Black women to discuss easy and light-hearted topics, as well as navigate hard and heated topics. The group also made space for attendees to share topics that were front-of-mind in their lives whether it be dating, women’s health, current events, other lesbians or home life. It was a social safe-haven for Black women who didn’t frequent bars and clubs, in addition to those who did. BLSG. For us, by us and catered to us.
